If you missed the first part of our recent trip to Mississippi, you can check it out here. We made it to my parents’ house on Sunday evening and had a good time just visiting and catching up. We made a run to the grocery store to pick up some last minute supplies for the cookout the next day and got Turner settled in for the night.
On Monday (the 4th), my mom’s side of the family gathered at our house for a cookout. As part of their business, my parents rent large event tents, so we had a 20 x 40 tent set up in the back yard to help with the heat. It was the perfect setting! Aaron’s family joined us as well, so in total, we had over 40 people there. (Side note – I’m so thankful that our families are close and feel comfortable going to each other’s homes. That’s so special to me!)
My parents bought a swimming pool for the kids and set it up under a smaller tent in the back yard. I’m positive that’s the best $20 that they’ve ever spent! Turner, Katie, and LK played ALL DAY. They barely took a break to eat lunch and then they were back in the water. I stuck around near the kids most of the day to make sure they didn’t drown each other, but I was very happy to get to see some of my extended family that I don’t get to see that often. The last guests left around 6:30 PM, so we had a really full day of fun and fellowship. Turner fell asleep (while eating) at 6:45 and slept 12+ hours that night.
On Tuesday, we met up with some of Aaron’s family for a day at Geyser Falls Waterpark. We had such a fun day! The kids loved playing at the beach area and at squeaky leaky. Turner, who has always been terribly afraid of sand, suddenly turned into a little beach baby! He loved building “moon cakes” (in their words) with LK and splashing in the water. His older cousin Edi was such a big helper and loved playing with them at the beach. At the end of the day, a huge storm blew in, so we left the water park and headed home to spend the evening with my family. Turner and Katie played and had a great time reading books with Papa and Lulu.
On Wednesday, Aaron and I left Turner with Lulu so we could do some shopping at Kademi before having lunch lunch with my awesome friend Hope. I need to get better about taking pictures when we are together! Later that afternoon, we packed up the car while Turner napped and then started our trip back to Texas. We stopped in Flowood for dinner at Newks with Alicia (my other BFF) and her family. We had such a special time visiting with them! Thankfully the remainder of the trip was uneventful and we made it back safely to Texas. We love our visits to Mississippi and can’t wait to go back ASAP! Snapshots are below!
