Even though Fall has officially been around for a few weeks, it doesn’t quite feel like it yet here in North Texas. The temperature has still been in the upper 80’s lately, but mornings and evenings are becoming more and more cool, so I can tell that Fall weather is on the way. Even though I’m looking forward to cooler weather (so I can wear skinny jeans and boots on the daily), I must say I am still very much enjoying still being able to dress my toddler in shorts and a t-shirt every day even in mid-October!
I really love everything about this season, so I’ve rounded up a few of my Fall favorites to share with you.
First, let’s talk food. Although I don’t like pumpkin pie, I do love pretty much anything else pumpkin-related. One of my favorite Fall desserts to make is a pumpkin spice gooey butter cake. It is always a crowd-pleaser! You might as well make a double batch, because this one always goes really quickly! I use a recipe very similar to the one found here.
Speaking of pumpkin, I don’t drink Pumpkin Spice Lattes since I don’t like coffee, BUT, I did just recently discover that Starbucks offers a Pumpkin Spice Crème, which is essentially steamed milk with all the same flavors as the PSL. It sounds like such a warm and cozy drink, so I’m sure I’ll give it a try soon!
I also LOVE to make slow-cooker soups during this time of year, and my go-to is definitely taco soup. It is SO EASY to make and is a great way to easily feed a crowd. We use a recipe similar to this one, except we use shoepeg corn and also add a can of ranch style beans.
Besides all the good food, one of my other favorite things about this season are all of the beautiful colors. Although I’m not very crafty, I decided to create a seasonal centerpiece for our breakfast table with some beautiful Fall flowers. I found the pumpkins for $3 each at Target, and the flowers came from Michael’s (for 50% off!) I trimmed the stems with wire cutters so that they would fit in the cute little flower pots that I picked up at Kademi this summer. I had the burlap runner from last year (Target for $3, I believe). For someone who doesn’t do crafts very well, I was pretty pleased with how it turned out!
What are some of your Fall favorites?
I can’t believe you don’t like pumpkin pie or coffee! October is my favorite month! I have so much more energy and I love decorating my home for fall! I also love cooking more in the fall which makes my hubby happy! I have a wonderful baked potato soup that I like to make but it’s definitely not one to make if you’re watching calories. I gave the recipe to my grandmother that lived to be 101 and she entered it in a contest and won 1st place! She even got her picture in the paper!
