If you do a quick Google search for “overnight oats,” you’ll get approximately 467,000 page results. So I obviously know I’m not the first to make these, but I like them so much that I just have to share in case somehow you’ve missed the memo about how good these are and how easy they are to make!
Like many of you, I don’t have a whole lot of spare time in the mornings, but you’ll never convince me to skip breakfast. So I always look for quick and easy breakfast ideas, and overnight oats top the list as one of my favorites.
The basic recipe is straightforward:
- 1/2 cup of old fashioned oats (I do not recommend using instant or steel cut)
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 1/4 cup yogurt of choice
- 1 T chia seeds (optional)
Once you’ve got these 3 ingredients mixed up, then the fun part begins! You can customize your oats any way that you’d like. My favorite is to use coconut milk and coconut flavored yogurt, along with fresh strawberries or mango. So delicious! It’s even better topped with some coconut flakes!
Some other popular mix-ins are peanut butter and banana (I wait to add the banana in the morning so it doesn’t get too mushy), peaches or apples with honey and cinnamon, or blueberries with slivered almonds. The possibilities are really endless! I haven’t done it yet, but I’m thinking Nutella with strawberries might be a winner too.
These are great to make ahead in mason jars (or really any container that you have). I just grab one and go in the morning, and it really is a filling and delicious breakfast. Give them a try!
