A couple of months ago, I wrote about how I wanted to organize and purge items from several places around our house. I (mostly) stuck to the plan and cleaned each area as scheduled and I’m really happy with the results. I didn’t take photos of every area, but here are some of the highlights:
Week 1: Master Bedroom – I was able to sort through a lot of my old lounge clothes, pajamas, and various other items in the dresser that I don’t wear anymore. I also cleaned out the nightstand drawers and only kept items that we really need in there.
Week 2: Master Bathroom – The biggest change in here was that I finally purged my trial/travel size bath items. What a difference! Look at that before picture!! Ummm…”Hello my name is Anna and I am was a hoarder of tiny bath products.”
Week 3: Laundry Room – I was able to clean off the tops of the washer/dryer of all the accumulation of things that we don’t really use. I bought 2 small baskets at Target to organize the items that we need, but don’t use often.
We also have a storage area in the laundry room under our stairway, so I organized all of the items to make more efficient use of the space.
Week 4: Turner’s room and bathroom – We’re in the middle of re-decorating Turner’s room, so this hasn’t been done yet. Here’s a little sneak peek of when the work was in progress, but stay tuned for updates!
Weeks 5-7: Kitchen – We had an over-abundance of cups in our house. Literally over 150 cups for 3 people. So crazy! I was able to sift through the ones that we don’t want/need and donate those to Goodwill. Then I moved on to the pantry and purged all the old items that we no longer need. I wanted to make lots of room to store food since we were getting ready to host my family for Christmas.
Weeks 8-10: Living room and upstairs – Currently in progress. We had a few other household projects that came up that threw me off schedule. (AKA – putting away all of the Christmas decorations).
Week 11 – Master Closet: I donated a large bin full of clothes that I pulled from my closet, but I still want to go back and take another look to see what else I can part with. I’ll probably work on this more now that the holidays are over
Overall, I’m very pleased with the progress so far! I enjoy keeping a clean and organized home (as much as possible with a toddler!) and plan to keep doing these little mini-projects throughout the year. Do you have any favorite organizing tips? If so, I’d love to hear them!
